Intro

“The most important exhibition in the world for Italian art”. This is the Florence International Biennial Antiques Fair (BIAF) according to Secretary General, Fabrizio Moretti. A feast for the arts, the fair celebrated its 60th anniversary from its foundation in 2019; each year it manages to impress visitors with works that could well belong to an art history textbook. During the Biennial, Florence becomes the capital of ancient art and the magnificent rooms of Palazzo Corsini and the city put on a festive mood: this is the perfect backdrop to the very special experience of the Italian antiques trade. The history of the Biennial, from its origins in 1959 up to today, is a most interesting one and well worth retracing, as it gauges the style, taste and knowledge as they change over the years.
