Inscription in pen at the bottom: “Sig.re Peppino Bazzuoli Pittore / di L. Sabatelli”
As the paper applied on the back reveals, these two paintings come from the collections of Vittorio Emanuele II di Savoia. At the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Milan there are two other paintings by Andrea Appiani of the same size and subjects similar to ours, which suggests that the painter originally conceived a cycle of 4 paintings which was later disjointed.
